Igniting Young Minds to Reach for a Bright Future

February Mindfulness Monthly Memo

Posted Date: 2/03/25 (6:00 PM)

February’s Mindfulness Monthly Memo focuses on being friendly and having strong social connections. Here are three important health boosts that occur for us when we take the time to connect socially with others:

Mental Health: According to the American Psychological Association (APA), being friendly and having strong social connections significantly contributes to positive mental health, as quality friendships can act as a protective factor against mental health issues like depression and anxiety while also boosting overall well-being and happiness.

Physical Health: Studies have shown that adults who report having strong friendships have a reduced risk of developing certain health problems. Examples include high blood pressure, a lowered risk of stroke, diabetes, and heart attacks, as well as promoting a healthy BMI (body mass index).

Cognitive Health: In regards to cognitive health, a research study conducted on elderly women found that those who had a large social support network had a lowered risk of dementia and experienced an overall protective effect from cognitive decline.February's Mindfulness Monthly Memo is here!
